The management of his former club Bayern Munich was furious when he saw Alaba kiss the crest on his debut as a new Real Madrid player. ‘It was an emotional day for me. I am happy after coming to this club and want to show how excited I am to take on this challenge.’

Alaba reunited with old friend Toni Kroos, a former team-mate at Bayern Munich who has helped him settle in well since moving to the Spanish capital.
‘We smiled when we first met in the dressing room, Tony helped me a lot in the beginning and he was a big factor when I had to adjust to this new life. His wife also helped my wife in the process.’
Alaba also said of his reunion with Carlo Ancelotti: ‘It is very happy to be working with him again. He is an honest man and his experience is valuable.’
‘He used to talk to me in German when we first met. So he definitely learned some German! We have now switched to English,’ Alaba said.
